History of The World's Healthiest Breakfast

Did you know, On every 30th March we celebrate as "World idly day ", Yes, Idly (or) Idli is one of the healthiest breakfast in the world, before going to the history let's know something about idly, it's a well-known recipe in other countries with a name of Savoury Rice cake (Sounds excited?? but yes !!)

Idly is actually originated from the Indian Sub continents and the most popular breakfast in southern India amongst and  Tamils in Sri Lanka.
One interesting fact about Idly, named as "Iddalige", prepared from only Black Gram Batter, worked by the Kannada language written by Shivakotiacharya as a prose narrative written in pre-old Kannada.

Abhilashitartha Chintamani is an early 12th-century Sanskrit text composed by the Kalyani Chalukyas King Someshvara III, who ruled in present-day South India. One of the interesting facts is that the IDLY in 1235 is described as being "light, like coins of high value" which explains like the expensive dish is now called Uddina idli.

According to the food historian, KT Acharya speculates that modern idly originated from Indonesia,  according to him the cooks employed by the Hindu Kings of the Indianised Kingdoms might have invented the steamed idli there, and later the recipe brought back to India during mid 900's. Acharya mentioned again the steamed recipe is mentioned or named as "kedli", was like an idly but the fact is Janaki Lenin another guy who failed to find the recipe for an Indonesian dish by its name, Hence it proved that the dish is originated from Indian Cooks.

After 12th-century Gujrati historians introduced the same recipe with adding rice and urad dal ground together and later steamed to form cake had its origin in Gujarat and after 1520 it is renamed as IDADA.

Finally Idly has a different name and different varieties all over India. Some of them are

mini sambar idly (Tamil Nadu)

Tatte idly (Karnataka)

Hittli (Konkani)
Muday idli (Mangalorean)
Sooji idly (Karnataka)

Now idly is one of the popular and most recommended Healthiest breakfast announced by WHO.
